In its first year as members of the US Soccer Development Academy, Oklahoma Energy FC attended the 2018 DA Winter Showcase, grabbing accolades and attention from Top Drawer Soccer and Division I, II, III and NAIA college coaches. The U15, U16/17 and U18/19 teams went a combined 7-1-1 on the week, scoring 25 goals and conceding only seven.
OEFC players were watched and scouted by over 120 Division I college coaches from various conferences including the SEC, ACC, Big 12, Big 10 and PAC-12. Overall, five OEFC members made the topdrawersoccer.com Best XI from their age group. Goalkeeper Bailey Ledbetter and midfielder Shyann McClary made the starting 11 in the U18/19 age group, along with honorable mention honors from forward Peyton Vincze and defender Juliet Moncho. Forward Jadyn Chee also snagged honorable mention credit in the U16/17 division.
All three teams enjoyed state-of-the-art recovery systems and camaraderie-building activities throughout the week.
“Everything about the event as a whole was of the utmost professionalism,” DA coach Gareth Evans said. “The level of opposition was top class, the facilities in every way from the quality of the fields to the recovery zone’s, hydration stations and medical tents were outstanding.”
In addition, all three teams were able to attend a U20 U.S. national team friendly against France. OEFC alum, Hensley Hancuff, is a member of the U20 U.S. team roster.
“Getting the chance to watch our U20 national team and support our very own Hensley was a proud and exciting moment for the club,” Evans said. “To top if off, the exposure our girls got while playing, with 120+ college coaches and 20+ national team staff watching throughout the course of the week, was the icing on the cake.”
As OEFC continues to build its DA involvement, it’s easy to see the exceptional level of play and exposure this brings to soccer players in the state of Oklahoma.
